Pro Silva Ireland is delighted to announce new 2022 dates for training on early transformation to CCF in Sitka spruce plantations.
The course is now well established and has received strong positive feedback from previous participants.
This is currently the only training course related to Sitka spruce plantation transformation in Ireland.
Dates: Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 October 2022 (2 days)
Venue: Community Hall and Private Forest at Kilteel, Co. Kildare
The course involves indoor and outdoor sessions over two days, with practical tree marking exercises in a specially prepared forest area (called a marteloscope). Participants will receive feedback on tree marking and will learn the difference between conventional early thinning in clearfell forestry versus tree selection for CCF management. The course is designed for foresters and forest owners who wish to progress their skills in CCF management.
Ted Wilson is a silviculturist with wide international experience as a forester, researcher and lecturer. His primary focus is silvicultural science and the management of continuous cover forests. Ted is currently Teagasc Walsh Scholar in Silviculture and is completing his PhD in UCD on the Teagasc/UCD TranSSFor Project: transformation of Sitka spruce stands to Continuous Cover Forestry in Ireland.
The course is limited to 12 participants and the cost will be €240 for Pro Silva Ireland members or €300 for non-members (who will be offered free membership of Pro Silva Ireland if they register for the course).
The course is worth 45 SIF CPD Points.

Hi there, I’m just wondering if other dates will be announced for this course ?
Thanks, Ashling
Hi Ashling, Yes, we are hoping to do more Tree Marker courses in the future, subject to demand. However, we have no fixed dates as of yet. If a new course is announce, notice will be emailed to the membership and posted on the website.
Great, would definitely be interested as unfortunately the dates in October will be complicated.
Thanks a mill!
