Pro Silva Ireland is delighted to announce new dates for our two-day spruce tree marking course, designed to support early transformation to CCF in Sitka spruce plantations in Ireland.
This course is suited to participants who have attended an Introduction to CCF event and wish to develop practical skills in tree selection and marking for CCF management.
LEARNING BY DOING – The course combines indoor and outdoor sessions over two days, with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning. Practical tree marking exercises will take place in a specially prepared forest area known as a marteloscope.
Participants will receive structured feedback on their tree marking decisions and will explore the key differences between conventional early thinning in clear-fell systems and selective tree marking for CCF management.
The course is designed for foresters and hands-on forest owners who are taking their first steps in CCF management.
EXPERT INSTRUCTOR – The course will be led by Prof. Ted Wilson MSIF FRSB, an experienced silviculturist with extensive international experience as a forester, researcher and educator. His work focuses on the applied science and management of continuous cover forests. Ted was previously a Walsh Fellow in Silviculture with Teagasc.
This course is being offered free of charge, supported by funding through the Forestry Training Skills Programme of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
The course qualifies for 45 CPD points for foresters registered on the Society of Irish Foresters CPD programme.
Spaces are limited and early registration is advised.
