Pro Silva Ireland Covid-19 Postponements

April 23, 2020

In-line with Government and HSE guidelines, Pro Silva Ireland is postponing part of its 2020 calendar of events, including the spring field day and foreign study tour.

The field day was scheduled to take place this coming Saturday, April 25th 2020 at Cloragh, Co. Wicklow, and the foreign study tour to Germany’s Black Forest in May 2020.

Pro Silva Ireland (PSI) Chair Liam Byrne said all postponed events would be rescheduled to take place when appropriate. Deposits paid to PSI can either be refunded or carried forward to the rescheduled event.

Liam said he wished to thank Pro Silva Ireland member Rainer Wirz for all his work in organising the Black Forest tour, which had been fully subscribed to in record time and greatly anticipated by members.
While the events had to be postponed Pro Silva Ireland was still working to champion continuous cover forestry in Ireland.
“On your behalf the Pro Silva Ireland committee continue to advance the development of CCF in Ireland through practise, field work, research and engagement with with all relevant bodies,” Liam said.
“I would also like to say hello to all our members at this challenging time and am especially thinking of those who are directly effected by COVID-19. My thoughts are with members in isolation and those in at risk groups.”
Liam said forests were of particular importance during the COVID-19 disruption.
“We can be very appreciative of the comfort, reassurance and inspiration we gain from nature and the forests around us at this time and I hope members can stay safe, support those close to us and look forward to meeting together in harmony with nature in our splendid CCF forests soon”.

Members who have paid deposits can contact Pro Silva Ireland treasurer Sean Garvey for a refund or otherwise at Sean.Garvey@gmit.ie

The focus of the Pro Silva Ireland Autumn field day will be early management of 1st generation oak plantation. We will be joined on the day by the Head Cooper from Irish Distillers in Middleton Co. Cork. Ger is a 5th generation cooper who has spent his life working with oak and knows the quality requirements of oak for coopering better than anyone.
